How to Invite, Allow or Block Orkut Friends on Gtalk chat

Since Gtalk was got integrated with Orkut, you can chat with any of your Orkut friends on Orkut site itself, without logging into Gtalk chat. But usually not all our friends appear in our Gtalk list, the reason behind this is that they are yet to integrate Orkut and Google account or you have not invited them to chat with you. And in some other cases you might be thinking of blocking someone from chatting with you. Orkut has a common platform to allow, invite or block friends from chatting with you on Orkut. Let’s know about it.

  1. Login to your Orkut profile.
  2. Navigate to Settings and click on Chat tab
  3. If you want to allow all your Orkut friends to chat with you, check the first option Allow all my Orkut friends to chat with me
  4. If you want to block some Orkut friends from chatting with you, uncheck the above option, select the second option Ungrouped friends and uncheck friends to block them
  5. Now if you want to allow someone to chat with you using Gtalk on Orkut, check their names in the Ungrouped friends list
  6. Once you have made the changes, click on Save to save your new preferences
  7. You are done.

In this way you can allow anyone to chat with you on Orkut, invite to chat on Gtalk or block someone from being able to send any chat meesages to your on Orkut.

    hello sir, in chatting tab in settings i was not able to uncheck the box of a particular person….i don’t want to chat wit tat person….the check box appears in a dim shade, so tat i can’t do any changes to tat….others r working properly….tel me som idea plz sir…

    @ Divya : If you are not being able to uncheck those persons from Orkut (you get an inactive check box next to their names), it means that you have not added them to Gtalk on Orkut or vice verse. Chances are that you have added them directly on Gtalk.

    You have to remove them using Gtalk client or from Gmail’s chat interface.
