Now you can check your Orkut scraps from your RSS reader without logging in to your Orkut profile. If you want to hide your online status and don’t want to tell your Orkut friends about your online presence, then this is the best way to read your and other’s scraps. All you need is to have a RSS feed account and set it to pull out your Orkut scraps. When this is done, you can check your Orkut scraps from your browser without signing into your Orkut profile.
To set this up, you need to have a RSS feed reader account. There are several RSS service providers available to choose from. You may like to use the mostly used Feedburner for this purpose. Go to www.feedburner.com and sign up for a free account. When you are done, follow the below steps.
1. Log into your Orkut homepage and click on your display picture. This will take you to your profile page.
2. Look at the address bar. Your address bar should be having a URL like this : http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Profile.aspx?uid=1234567890
3. Here 1234567890 is a specially allocated UID (user identification) number to you. Copy your UID number from there.
4. Now it’s time to make a RSS feed for your Orkut scraps.
5. Just edit the UID number in this link : http://www.indian-tv.com/orkut.php?uid=1234567890 (Change 1234567890 with your UID number).
6. The above link is your Orkut scrapbook RSS feed. You are done with the RSS feed now. It’s time to subscribe to that RSS feed with a RSS feader.
7. I guess you have already made an account with Feedburner. Let’s configure it.
- Log in to your Feedburner account.
- You can notice a box there like the below screenshot. Enter your RSS feed for Orkut scraps there. (Ex : http://www.indian-tv.com/orkut.php?uid=1234567890) and click Next.
- It will take you to a feed confirmation page. You can customize your feed title there. For an example, I have renamed it to My DarkOrkut.com Scraps. You may like it to rename as My Orkut Scraps.
- You can also edit your feed address (subject to availability). You can also move ahead without editing this. Here, I have renamed my orkut scraps feed address to DarkOrkut.
- Now when your feed is up, you will get a confirmation page like below. After getting confirmed, copy the feed link from that page. In my case, Orkut feed RSS is http://feeds2.feedburner.com/DarkOrkut
- Now you are done with making and setting up your Orkut scraps RSS feed. The final step is to subscribe to your Orkut scrap feeds.
- The best and easy way to subscribe to your scraps feed is Google reader or Yahoo reader.
- Follow their steps and subscribe to your own Orkut scraps.
Now you really don’t need to sign in to your orkut account each time you want to check your scraps. Simply set up a RSS feed for your Orkut scraps and check your scraps as RSS feed.
